November kicks off the annual year-end giving season for those who want to support their favorite causes. Give to the Max Day, hosted by GiveMN.org, has become a prime marker for the season for Minnesotans. It is scheduled for Thursday, November 18, 2021. During Give to the Max Day, people may easily make contributions through GiveMN.org’s online platform.
The Morrison County Historical Society (MCHS) has set up a donations page at GiveMN.org, all ready for our year-end appeal. For this year’s appeal, we are seeking contributions to our Operating Reserve in order to help pay staff costs.
MCHS’s continued existence depends on our highly-skilled museum staff. You are able to see their work when you visit The Charles A. Weyerhaeuser Memorial Museum to experience the exhibits, participate in classes, conduct research, read the history articles they write, or visit the organization’s website (morrisoncountyhistory.org).
Staff is also involved with a number of behind-the-scenes activities such as …
- Sorting and cataloguing museum collections
- Doing routine maintenance of the museum building and grounds
- Writing grants for programming and building improvements
- Doing research for articles and exhibits, as well as for researchers who can’t make it to the museum
- Bookkeeping tasks, including tax filing and bank reconciliation
- Collecting and arranging archival materials
- Taking classes to improve their skills
- Forming and maintaining professional relationships with other organizations
- Answering questions on county history for the public and MCHS members
And so much more!
MCHS currently has two full-time employees and three part-time employees (one grant funded) that could be full-time. With proper funding, we would be able to make them full-time. Beyond that, we’ve got enough work at the museum that we could easily keep five or six more people employed in meeting our mission of preserving and sharing Morrisons County history.
Approximately 75% of MCHS’s ~$170,000 annual budget is devoted to staff costs. While we constantly seek funding opportunities to increase the budget for staff, we also depend on members and friends like you to help.
That’s where this appeal comes in: This year we are asking for your help growing our Operating Reserve to help with museum staff costs.
Every donation helps grow that Operating Reserve cushion that assures the MCHS can continue bringing you the local history you love. Any amount you can give is greatly appreciated.
