Periodically we receive requests to post information on regional or state-wide events on our website or through our social media accounts.  We’d like to explain our philosophy of what we will post via our online sites and why.

As the Morrison County Historical Society, we have a very specific purpose – to collect, preserve and share the history of Morrison County.  In order to keep our nonprofit status, we have to cleave tightly to that purpose.  When we post event notices here, our first priority is to follow that mission and post things that we are involved with, or that meet our mission in some way.

That said, we also like to post things that may be of broader interest to our members and friends.  Morrison County history connects to the wider history of the state of Minnesota in some unexpected ways.  We know that history doesn’t stay in nice, neat, little geographic packages.

Periodically, we will post information on the website and through our social media accounts about events that we think will mesh with Morrison County history, even if that connection isn’t readily apparent.  We won’t get crazy about it, though, so don’t add us to your list of regular media contacts.  And don’t take it personally if we don’t happen to post about a particular event.  It may not have met our criteria, or we didn’t have time to post.  If you have any questions, leave a comment, or contact us via email.

  1. Howdy . . . . . . . I am sending this email in reference to my phone

conversation with Grace earlier this week. I’m wondering if any

information is available regarding the Preimesberger Arena that

hosted the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association in 1981 at

Genola, Mn. Please advise. Thank you.

    1. Hi, George – I did a little scouting in the Genola box, our miscellaneous business boxes, and our Preimesberger Family File for info on the Preimesberger Arena and came up empty-handed. If the local newspapers covered the event, it’s possible there will be information within those. If you’d like to look through our newspaper collection, we are open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 11-5 (though we will be closed tomorrow, July 3, 2021, in observance of the Fourth of July weekend). We are also open by appointment only on Wednesdays if that works better for you. Call 320-632-4007 to make an appointment for that day.

If you’d like staff to do this research for you, we charge an hourly research fee ($25 per hour plus copies and postage). Just give us a call again if that’s a better option for you.

      Thanks!

      Mary Warner
      Executive Director

  2. I have two 3″ round metal disks that say 1981 N.H.P.A. World Championships, Genola, Minnesota (Preimesberger Arena). On the back is a pin clip and Nos. 3810 and 3905. They probably were entry tickets to the event. I intend to donate them to Morrison County Historical Society. There are pamphlets on Google Books about this event. I’m surprised that the museum does not have more information!

    1. Hello Ruth!

We would definitely like to take a look at them whenever you’re able to bring them to the museum! Thanks so much for reaching out to us.
