Isn’t free food the major draw for events in Central Minnesota? Well, we’re hosting four coffee parties around Morrison County this summer and there will be free food along with a helping of history.
Here’s the press release I wrote for this series of events, along with the flyer I put together for it.
MCHS Celebrates 75th with a Series of Coffee Parties
Seventy-five years ago, a shopper could purchase a dozen oranges for twenty-four cents, beef pot roast at fifteen-cents a pound, a pair of men’s oxfords for $2.98, a box of 160 dressmakers’ pins for four-cents, Finnan Haddie (smoked haddock) for twenty-nine cents a pound, and a two-pound can of coffee for fifty-cents. Today, a cup of coffee can be picked up for free at one of four coffee parties being hosted by the Morrison County Historical Society (MCHS) in honor of its 75th anniversary. Cookies and lemonade will also be available gratis.
Because the Morrison County Historical Society collects and preserves the history of the entire county, it has chosen to celebrate its 75th anniversary with events in the five districts of the Morrison County Commissioners. There will be coffee parties in four of the districts and an anniversary dinner in the fifth.
The four coffee parties will celebrate not only founding of MCHS in 1936, but will also honor county residents 75 and older and showcase history from around Morrison County.
All ages are welcome to attend the coffee parties, which will be held in an open house format, with attendees encouraged to drop in any time between 2 and 4 p.m. on the following dates:
July 12, 2011 – Bingo Park, Randall, MN
July 26, 2011 – Parish Community Center, Buckman, MN
August 10, 2011 – Holy Family Church, Belle Prairie, MN
August 24, 2011 – Granny’s Café, Swanville, MN
