It’s November so it’s that time of year when those willing and able get out to support their favorite organizations. Give to the Max Day hosted by GiveMN.org has been the state’s premiere connection between worthy funds and willing donors, making it so easy to make contributions to the causes you care about through their online platform. Like past years, we at the Morrison County Historical Society (MCHS) will have our own campaign on GiveMN.org.
This year, we continue to focus on those who work within the museum.
While the building houses our county’s history, it would be nothing without our highly-trained staff there to take care of it. The museum currently employs three full-time staff members, and you can see their hard work when you visit the museum or conduct research in our archives. However, there’s even more going on behind the scenes that visitors don’t see!
Each day our staff is busy…
- Writing grants for programming and building improvements
- Doing research for articles and exhibits, as well as for researchers who can’t make it to the museum
- Monitoring the museum environment to assure proper conditions for artifacts
- Working with local businesses to maintain museum building and grounds
- Maintaining the museum website
- Sorting and cataloguing museum collections
- Bookkeeping tasks including tax filing and bank reconciliation
- Taking classes to improve their skills
- Forming and maintaining professional relationships with other organizations
And so much more!
Approximately 75% of MCHS’ ~$200,000 budget is devoted to staff costs. While we constantly seek funding opportunities to increase the budget for staff, we also depend on our members and friends to help.
That’s where this appeal comes in: This year, for Give to the Max Day 2025, we are asking for your help in growing our Operating Reserve.
Our Operating Reserve acts as a cushion for staff costs. Every donation helps grow that cushion and assures that MCHS can continue bringing you the local history you love. Any amount you can give is greatly appreciated!
Give to the Max Day is November 20, and Early Giving begins November 1
