Martha (Campbell) Brown (1832?-1907) was born in County Antrim, Ireland, in February of 1832 or 1834. Martha married James Brown in Ballymena Parish, Country Antrim, in 1853. Despite the fact that Martha’s father was a schoolmaster, she may have been illiterate as she placed a mark on her marriage certificate instead of using a signature. Martha and James immigrated to Ohio in 1861 and six years later moved to Little Falls, Minnesota. Martha and James, had eleven children – Dana H., Ethan Sanford, Alfred S., Elias F., James A., Mattie (Martha), Jennie, Mary, John, William and Sadie. The manufacturer’s mark on the back of the photograph indicates that the photo was taken at the C. C. Neal Art Gallery (http://morrisoncountyhistory.org/history/?page_id=449) of Little Falls, Minnesota.
