The Morrison County Historical Society continues exploring the history of tattoo with this year’s annual program, “Pin-ups, Anchors, and Hearts: The Influence of Tattooing on American History.”

The program features guest speaker Mitch Bender, a professor in environmental studies at St. Cloud State University. When he’s not teaching environmental studies, Bender studies tattoo history and collects tattoo art and paraphernalia. He also collects his own tattoos, getting them from artists whom he admires as he travels. His favorite era of American tattoo history spans World War I and the Vietnam War. This is the tattoo history he will be discussing during his presentation.

MCHS’s annual program will take place Monday, September 30, 2019, at the Morrison County Government Center (courthouse) in the County Commissioners’ meeting room on the lower level. Social hour starts at 6:00 p.m., during which attendees can bid on silent auction items with proceeds to be used for MCHS operations.

The program starts at 7:00 p.m. and will include the historical society’s annual meeting, followed by Mitch Bender’s tattoo presentation. Dessert will be served during the event.

The cost of the annual program is $25 + tax per person. Register online at https://squareup.com/store/morrison-county-historical-society or by calling 320-632-4007. Registrations are due by September 24.
