Random Photo – Swanville

I thought it would be fun to head to the photo collection and pull something at random to share here. The following photo is from Swanville and shows Isabel Flood with her Sunday School class from the Congregational Church. Isabel was the first teacher in the Swanville public schools.

Notice that there is only one boy in the photo (at the back). According to the description written on the back of the photo, the donor “Never knew how Willie McIvor got in this photo?”

All but one of the children are identified (yea for the donor!). They are as follows: Front row, left to right: Marjorie Arnold, Louise Pritzel, Gladys Willey, Myrtle Arnold, Lillian Sullivan, Amanda Willey.

Second row, left to right: [One child unidentified to the left of Isabel] Ora McIvor, Rhea Champlain, Isabel Flood, Olive Sullivan, Laura Willett, Myrtle Stitch.

  1. The little girl listed as Myrtle “Stitch” should be Myrtle Stith. She was my grandmother and was the daughter of J.D. and Bazilla Stith who owned the general store in Swanville. Isabel (Cox) Flood was Bazilla Stith’s sister and was the first woman mayor of Swanville (and the first in Morrison County).
