This small cookbook (6½”H x 4″W) is one of a collection of cookbooks recently donated by Fred “Bodie” Larson of Little Falls, Minnesota. The cookbooks belonged to Fred’s mother, Bertha (Sprandel) Larson, and his aunt, Carolyn (“Carrie”) Sprandel. Bertha and Carolyn were the children of Charles August and Caroline Sophia (Kastner) Sprandel. Bertha Sprandel (1893-1966) married Fred (Nels Frederick) Larson (1892-1974) in 1918 in Little Falls. Fred served as Register of Deeds for Morrison County from 1923 until his retirement in 1971. He also served as county abstractor for many years.
“Choice Recipes” features chocolate and cocoa recipes and homemade candy recipes. Among the delectable titles in the index are Chocolate Caramel Cake, Fudge Icing, Foamy Sauce, Chocolate Blanc Mange, Chocolate Parfait, Choice Chocolate Pecan Pralines and Marshmallow Fudge.
