Last year in May, I wrote an article about the Sulfur Shelf Mushroom with the unique face growing on the trunk of our old ash tree at our home.
We were hoping for another in May this year, but that didn’t happen, so hubby Ben and I placed a container of flowers surrounded by rocks on the top of the trunk.
In September, my sister-in-law, Alvina, asked me what’s that yellow stuff on the old stump. I saw what she was talking about and said maybe that mushroom came back.
We hurried out to take a look and there it was…between all those rocks. I could see it was going to get larger so waited until it stopped growing to get a photo of this colorful mushroom. Reminds me of candy corn.
This is only a portion of the mushroom that grew three quarters of the way around the container. It sure slowed the traffic in front of our home as people were stretching their necks to get a look.
That container has got to go, and maybe next year we will be surprised with another beautiful mushroom.
