For the last several years, the MCHS Board and museum staff have discussed nominating the Weyerhaeuser Museum and property to the National Register of Historic Places. The process to attain listing is rigorous — by design. The first step is to complete a Property Evaluation. Thanks to a grant from the Arts & Cultural Heritage (Legacy) Fund, MCHS hired Andrea Pizza of Deco Cultural Services, to compile this eval. Her final report was recently submitted to both the State Historic Preservation Office and State Historical Society. It is thorough and compiles a wealth of information about the history of MCHS and the construction of the museum into an easy-to-read format.
The complete report can be viewed here.
MCHS board and museum staff will continue to examine the prospect of pursuing Register listing.
