Collections Carousel: The First National Bank of Little Falls Mechanical Satellite Bank

For this week’s Collection Carousel, we chose to highlight a Satellite Bank given out by The First National Bank of Little Falls in the 1960’s. According to the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum, this “mechanical bank was created by Duro Manufacturing of Detroit, Michigan, from a design patented in 1959. The slightly-rounded rocket shape atop a globe contained a spring-loaded mechanism that could shoot a coin into a slot on the underside of the rocket’s nose. Coins could be retrieved through the base of the bank” (https://airandspace.si.edu/collection-objects/bank-mechanical-duro-satellite/nasm_A20110034000).

If you would like to see how the bank works, we have attached a video for your viewing! Song included in the video is Charles L. Johnson’s All the Money (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1LOFXUaJBY).
