News! We’ve got news! And lots of it. I have at least seven topics for blog posts that need to be posted in short order because most of them are time-sensitive, so let’s get started.
Yesterday, the Region 5 History Coalition met in Staples at the Region 5 Development offices. It was a lively meeting, with topics ranging from our needs (photo conservation, disaster planning, volunteers, funding, etc.) to our plans for raising public awareness of the role of local history organizations to the new online calendar Region 5 set up for history, arts and education organizations (more on that in a later post) to the events we are hosting soon. We met for two hours, but could have kept talking for another two.
Circling back to the events, the Todd County Historical Society is having a Belgian Waffle Feed on Sunday, September 19, 2010, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the American Legion in Long Prairie, MN. The Legion is located off of Highway 71, next to the Dairy Queen. Cost of the event is $6.50 for adults and $4.00 for children ages 6 to 12. Children under 5 eat free. Feed your belly and support local history at the same time. (Ya gotta love that!)
The Todd County Historical Society is currently involved in an effort to save the county’s historic courthouse, which appears on the Preservation Alliance’s 2010 List of Most-Endangered Historic Places. The fate of the courthouse is due to go to a public referendum in November, so those who want to see it saved need to get involved now.
Check the Todd County government website for more info, including the Historic Courthouse Presentation Document. If you want to assist in efforts to save the courthouse, contact the Todd County Historical Society at 320-732-4426.
More posts to come soon. Stay tuned.
