We’re starting something we started before but quit because the tech went wonky on us. We used to have an email newsletter (e-newsletter) that people could subscribe to through our website. We primarily used it to send out notices of upcoming events at the Weyerhaeuser Museum. And then the e-newsletter application stopped working and we abandoned the effort.
As I read the various e-newsletters we receive at the museum and coast around our social media applications, I often run across interesting items on trends, state-wide news that might impact nonprofits, generally useful websites and applications, and information pertaining to the museum field as a whole. It seems a shame to keep these things to myself, especially because some of them could potentially impact our activities at the museum.
Rather than be a hoarder, I thought it’d be fun to share some of these links with MCHS board members, so I signed us up for MailChimp, an e-newsletter application. I put together the first e-newsletter for board members in mid-December and then tweeted about having used MailChimp. I was going to see how the e-news was received by the board before opening subscription up to everyone. My tweet garnered immediate interest from someone who wanted to subscribe, so yesterday I put the MCHS E-News subscription box on our website. (Check the left right side bar, scroll ’til you see it.)
This means we’re going to give the email newsletter a try again, only this time it will include interesting links along with news of what’s happening at MCHS and the Weyerhaeuser Museum. At this point, plans are to send it only once a month (although I probably have enough links for 2 newsletters already).
Give it a go! There’s no risk in subscribing. Each MCHS E-News that’s sent will give you the option to unsubscribe if you don’t find it useful.
