St. Francis High School was an amazing place that offered an education to young women that truly prepared us for the future. I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to attend this fine institution.

Great photo. Stanley was a first cousin of my grandfather Raymond Herum. Andrew grew up in High Lake TWP, Emmet County Iowa. He was a son of Peter and Bertha Herum born in Norway settled first in Wisconsin and moved to Emmet County Iowa. Many Herums live in Emmet county today. Happy birthday to Severin.

Hi, Art - We have two Family Files for the LaFond surname. If you're able to visit the museum, we can help you locate these obituaries and make copies for you. The only charge for doing your own research at the museum is for reproductions. If you are too far away to make visiting the museum convenient, please send us an email with the death dates for Delphis and Rosalie and your mailing address and staff will look up the obits and send them to you. Because this is a simple request that won't take much time, our minimum research fee of $5 plus postage should cover it. You may send an email to contactstaff@morrisoncountyhistory.org.

Thanks!

Comment on Why Historical Orgs Don’t Like Metal Detectors by mchs

Good point, TwistedVintage. Metal detectors can be used to help locate archaeological sites, but typically when people tell us they want to use a metal detector on a historic site, they aren't trained in archaeological techniques and don't realize that their digging around permanently damages sites.

Archaeologists regularly work with remote sensing, which is a method of looking at what's underneath the surface of the earth using a variety of techniques. Remote sensing is explained in more depth on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remote_sensing).

Incidentally, most local historical societies are under-funded and under-staffed, so we don't have archaeologists at our beck-and-call. While many of us understand the importance of archaeological sites, we don't necessarily have the expertise needed to evaluate a site from this standpoint. That's why we suggest people turn to the resources I mentioned in this blog post.
